Fundamentally, my work is an act of attention.
I notice the small traces people and places leave behind, things that are easily overlooked but quietly record existence.
I collect and hold them within layered Jesmonite casts. Once cured, each cast is cut. The position of the cut determines what is revealed or remains concealed. This element of chance is integral to the process. The resulting works invite us to pause and notice what we might otherwise ignore.
Perhaps my way of working comes from experiencing loss at a young age. It made me aware of how quickly moments disappear. I want to acknowledge them in the present. Each cast makes them tangible.
Nerys Evans is a British artist based in Wiltshire.
She holds a First class BA (Hons) in Interior Design and received a New Designers Award in 2018 for her final-year project. Her multidisciplinary background encompasses interior design, product design and education. These experiences continue to inform her approach to materials and process.
